Mike Silipo has established himself as one of the top coaches and recruiters during his nearly 15-year career, developing winners on and off the field.
Silipo, who was named head coach at St. Sebastian’s High School in August 2025, spent nine seasons at Boston University as the program’s offensive and recruiting coordinator. BU advanced to the Patriot League Tournament in every season of Silipo’s tenure, winning the conference title in 2022 and advancing to the conference championship contest in three of his final four seasons as a Terrier.
During his time with the Terriers, Silipo coached 13 All-America and 21 All-Patriot League selections on offense. In addition, Silipo recruited two-time First Team All-American Roy Meyer as well as fellow All-Americans Matt Garber and Patrick Morrison. He also recruited and coached the program’s only two Patriot League and ECAC Rookies of the Year in Chris Gray (2018) and Timothy Shannehan (2025). Shannehan became the first Terrier to represent the United States at the World U20 Championship and was named the No. 1 impact freshman in 2025 by Inside Lacrosse.
There’s no denying the impact Silipo made at BU. The Terriers led the NCAA in extra-man offense in both 2025 and 2023 in addition to boasting a top-11 man-up unit in the NCAA on three other occasions. BU also had a top-25 overall offense in three of the last four years. He also orchestrated the Terriers’ terrific 10-man ride, with BU finishing either second or third in the nation in opponent clearing percentage in each of his final five seasons at BU.
Silipo was instrumental in the success of several players at BU, with their names etched in the Terrier record book. Silipo recruited and coached the program’s top three point producers in Vince D’Alto (167g, 113a), Louis Perfetto (128g, 146a) and Timmy Ley (152g, 63a). That trio was the highest-scoring attack unit in the entire country during the 2022 campaign. He also recruited and developed one of the game’s all-time greats in the aforementioned Chris Gray, who totaled 182 of his NCAA-record 401 career points in two seasons under Silipo’s tutelage.
Silipo joined the Terriers after winning two conference championships in three seasons as an assistant at Ithaca College, his alma mater. There, he served as defensive coordinator and helped guide the Bombers to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances, including a berth in the 2016 quarterfinals.
In addition to his defensive responsibilities, Silipo was instrumental in improving Ithaca’s offense over his tenure there. The Bombers ranked 76th in the country in scoring offense prior to his arrival, but finished the 2016 campaign with an average of 16.91 goals per game, good for third in the NCAA.
Under Silipo’s tutelage, Ithaca also held opponents to just 6.82 goals per game in 2016 to help the Bombers finish with the nation’s best scoring margin at 10.09 goals per game. That season, Silipo coached Defensive Player of the Year Eli Golbrecht, who ent win to star in the NLL and PLL, as well as Goalie of the Year Scott Sidnam.
Prior to his stint at Ithaca, Silipo coached for two seasons at Williams College. He spent the first of his two campaigns at Williams as the defensive coordinator before shifting roles and leading the offense the following year. In 2013, he also took over duties as the program’s recruiting coordinator, film coordinator and faceoff coach. Silipo was also the football team’s running backs coach during his tenure at Williams.
Aside from his success as a college coach, Silipo has trained some of the top young players in the country, including five-star recruits Madeline Egan(Dartmouth), Corey Kumin(UNC) and John Lynch (Princeton). He has trained even more elite local talent who attend or are committed to Prinecton, Notre Dame, Harvard, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Loyola, Lafayette and other. Off the field, 18 different Terriers have been named USILA Scholar All-Americans since Silipo joined the coaching staff in 2017.
Outside of Coaching lacrosse, Silipo lives in Winchester with his wife Jessica who works in residential real estate. They are expecting their first baby in December!
